How to Include an ImageMap

Now imagemaps are supported in the server, and you will no longer have to mail root asking to put names in the configuration file, you can just reference your map files directly. You must use a mapping program to define the coordinates of the regions of the graphic and the web links to which the coordinates refer. Several imagemap programs are available as shareware or freeware. If you are using a Win 3.1 or Win95 platform, you might check the Winsock-L software archives on papa.indstate.edu for available imagemap programs. The imagemap program will generate the mapfile.map file which is referred to in the following procedure.

To reference a map file, put in the index file where the map file(s) are stored and put:

File=mapfile.map
Attribute=imagemap

Where "mapfile.map" is the name of your mapfile. Once you have done this for each mapfile, re-run mkindex in those directories.

Before, you had to reference an imagemap in your html file with the following lines:

<a href="/cgi-bin/imagemap/mapname">
<img src="image.gif" ismap>
</a>

Now, the only thing that has changed is the <a href=""> part, you simply point the href directly at the map file, like:

<a href="mapfile.map">
<img src="image.gif" ismap>
</a>

Nothing could be easier?
